Odds 'really good' for annual fundraising lottery

Residents wanting to renovate their home could win a $50,000 kitchen makeover while supporting the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton.

Tickets are still available for the annual Home Improvement Lottery.

Manager of Fund Development and Communications Marie Marcy-Smids said as of January 8, only 1,500 tickets had been sold.

"So your odds are really good with this lottery," she said.

The lucky winner will work with the design team from Bluewater Home Hardware Building Centre.

"You'll come out with everything from the electrical, the plumbing, the flooring, countertops, new appliances," she said. "It's the whole shebang."

Tickets are $40 each or three for $100.

The lottery launched in March and the draw will be held on Thursday, January 15.

"It will be livestreamed on Facebook and we will also announce on all of our social media and our website," Marcy-Smids said.

Money raised will stay in Sarnia-Lambton.

"We are only 48 per cent funded by the Ministry of Health so we are responsible to raise the remaining percentage, and this fundraiser generally makes about $75,000 for us," said Marcy-Smids. "It's crucial to our being able to serve the over 3,500 people in Sarnia-Lambton who are diagnosed with dementia, as well as their care partners. So that brings the number to 10,500 locally."

Tickets can be purchased through the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton's website.

Marcy-Smids thanked the team at Bluewater Home Hardware Building Centre for their support in this year's fundraiser.

Last year, a Corunna resident won the $50,000 backyard makeover, supported by DeGroot’s Nurseries.
