The Sarnia Police Service is reminding residents of the benefits of having surveillance systems after an alleged porch pirate was arrested this week.
Sarnia police said a 47-year-old man was arrested on July 9 and charged with theft under $5,000 after police allege he was captured on video stealing a package from a residence on East Street North.
Police said the theft occurred on July 4 and was reported through the service's online reporting tool.
The accused was later released from custody on bail.
Sarnia police said residential and commercial surveillance systems act as a deterrent to criminal activity, but can also help with criminal investigations.
Non-urgent incidents can be reported to police at sarniapolice.ca, where images of suspects can also be uploaded.
