Two people were transported to hospital with serious injuries following a collision in Lambton Shores on Thursday morning.
Lambton OPP, Lambton EMS, and volunteer firefighters responded to a report of a head on crash on Highway 21, between Army Camp Road and Northville Road, just after 6:30 a.m.
In a social media video, released around noon by West Region OPP, Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said two vehicles were involved.
"What I can tell you so far, is it appears that one driver was travelling on Highway 21 and attempted to pass a transport truck [and] collided with an oncoming driver," Sanchuk said. "The driver attempting to pass suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The driver that was collided with suffered serious life threatening injuries."
In response, Sanchuk put a reminder out to all motorists.
"If you wake up and it's foggy outside, do me a favour. Pack an ample supply of patience. You're eventually going to arrive at your destination. I understand people don't want to be late for work... your bosses will understand. Especially due to the weather conditions. If you find yourself behind a transport truck in thick fog, the best place for you is behind that transport truck."
Sanchuk said the crash was avoidable.
"People need to pack an ample supply of patience," he repeated. "They need to wake up earlier and they need to drive within the weather conditions. This crash was preventable and we're hoping for a recovery for both drivers that were involved."
Sanchuk said Highway 21 would be closed between Army Camp Road and Port Franks Road for several hours while officers continued to investigate.
The Ministry of Transportation reported just after 2 p.m. on July 10 that the scene had been cleared and the road was reopened.
