It's the official kickoff to the 2026 fundraising campaign: the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton's Annual Day of Caring.
Resource Developer Bruce McDonald said nearly 100 volunteers are donating their time at 17 job sites across Lambton on Tuesday, September 15.
"Our main goal is to assist individuals living in their homes, so they can continue to live in their homes," he said.
Volunteers will be painting, cleaning, doing yard work and helping out with small building projects at local non-profit agencies and at the homes of seniors.
"It's a really good way for our supporters and volunteers to become active in the community a little bit more, and go further than just their donation," said McDonald. "Because their donation matters and helps and does create change, but to have the day for our volunteers to go and see the importance to the community, and the fact that their generosity with their time, their abilities, their skills is what actively helps those in the community."
Executive Director Pamela Bodkin said in a news release, the Day of Caring is such a great example of what happens when the community comes together.
“We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors and volunteers for stepping up and showing what community caring looks like. Their commitment makes a real difference to the people and organizations who call Lambton County home.”
The annual event is also the official start of the yearly fundraising campaign. This year's goal is $1.5 million.
A total of 16 local agencies receive funding from the United Way, including Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and River City Vineyard.
Ahead of the official launch, over $250,000 had already been raised.
