$100M Imperial Sarnia fall maintenance project begins

Imperial Sarnia's fall turnaround estimated to cost over $100 million got underway on Monday.

The company said in a social media post, work at the Sarnia site is expected to last through mid-October.

Imperial said nearly 1,000 contractors will work alongside its employees each day to complete critical maintenance, inspection, and reliability work.

"Safety remains our highest priority," the company said in its post. "Extensive planning and preparation have gone into this turnaround to help protect our workforce, neighbours, and the community. This turnaround represents an investment of more than $100 million, supporting the long-term reliability of the Sarnia site while providing economic benefits for the local workforce, local businesses, and suppliers."

Imperial warned community members they may notice periods of increased flaring and noise over the weekend as process units were shut down.

"There will also be an increase in vehicle traffic around the site, particularly during shift changes," the company said.
