Registration for Race to Erase now open

Registration for the 20th annual Race to Erase fundraiser is now open.

The Race to Erase is an annual event in which teams of four compete in fun-filled challenges throughout Sarnia-Lambton in support of local charities.

"Race to Erase began in 2006, and it is a combination of think, Amazing Race meets Minute to Win It games. People travel all over Sarnia-Lambton competing in these fun-filled challenges on race day. And prior to race day, people raise funds for a charity of their choosing," said event organizer Kaley Holder. "It's an all-ages event. We have some racers who have been coming for years. Every year, we see new people join the fray. It is a hilariously competitive event with costumes and fun team names, and everyone is in the race for that ultimate prize of the Race to Erase trophy."

The race is committed to three core principles: having fun, fundraising, and community spotlight.

Sarnia's race usually has 30 teams of four, including many volunteers and organizers.

"This year, we are fortunate enough to be working with nine different organizations, and thanks to the community builders of the #local marketing Co-Op, 100 per cent of the funds raised through Race to Erase will go to the charities," said Holder.

This year's race takes place on Saturday, May 30 and kicks off at Lambton College.

"This is the 20th anniversary of Race, so we are really excited. We're aiming to go bigger and better than ever, bringing back some old favourite stops, doing a little bit of an homage to some of our past years, and just having as much fun as possible while raising money. The event is actually exceptionally close to having raised $1 million throughout its history. And our goal is to hit that fundraising goal this year."

For those who would like to sign their team up, they can do so on the Sarnia Race to Erase website.

There is no fee to register, but teams are asked to raise a minimum of $500.
