A man from Georgetown is facing numerous charges in a child sexual offences investigation.
Sarnia police said that a youth reported receiving an unsolicited and explicit image via text message from a family member and reported the incident at police headquarters on January 22.
An investigation was initiated by the Criminal Investigations Division, in partnership with the Children’s Aid Society, and interviews were organized.
As a result, police allege that they uncovered allegations of historical sexual abuse that is reported to have occurred several years ago while the victim was a young child.
Investigators also found that the accused was subject to multiple court orders, including a prohibition order and a family court order, which restricted contact with children and regulated the use of digital communication.
On January 23, a search warrant was executed at the accused's residence in Georgetown, Ontario, and items were seized as evidence.
The accused, a 56-year-old man from Georgetown, is facing several charges, including sexual exploitation, and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The identity of the accused is not being released to protect the victim and their family.
