Erratic driver charged with drug-impaired operation

A Sarnia woman is accused of operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs after being spotted driving erratically in the Northgate Plaza area.

On Wednesday, at around 4:45 p.m., police said an off-duty officer, and another citizen, spotted the suspect disobeying stop signs and driving over curbs.

The off-duty officer followed the driver as on duty patrol officers responded.

The vehicle was stopped in the area of Rosedale Avenue, and police said they observed obvious signs of drug impairment, fresh damage to the vehicle, and drug paraphernalia. Given her level of impairment, potential unknown substances, and resulting concerns for her safety the driver was transported to Bluewater Health for medical attention.

There, she was tested by a Sarnia Police Drug Recognition Expert who determined she was impaired by drugs. At the time, the driver was subject to a probation order and court ordered driving prohibitions.

A 29-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with the following:

- Operate Motor Vehicle while Prohibited (four counts)

- Failure to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)

- Failure to Comply with Release Order

- Operation while Impaired by Drugs

- Operation while Impaired (Blood Drug Concentration)

Following her bail hearing, the court released her with conditions.
