Canada and the U.S. have agreed to delay the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
That, from the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority, which has been conspicuously silent the past week.
The latest development comes after multiple reports from media in Canada and the U.S. saying there would be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday at the newest border crossing. Earlier this week, even Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters it would open.
"The Gordie Howe International Bridge will be a vital economic link for Canada and the United States," read a release quoting Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Legal Officer Chuck Andary. "As we work towards an opening date, we are taking a collaborative approach, reflecting our shared ambition for this trade corridor."
The authority said the agreement to delay the bridge's opening will allow both sides to resolve outstanding issues.
