St. Clair Township officials are aiming to reach more younger and first-time voters during this municipal and school board election.
For the first time, residents will exclusively be casting their ballots online.
This comes as voter turnout in the 2022 St. Clair Township election, conducted by mail-in ballot, was 39.34 per cent.
Clerk Jeff Baranek said they're aiming to surpass the 50 per cent mark this time around.
He said the township recognizes that new processes can sometimes be met with hesitation.
“Internet voting is much easier than many people think, and we are committed to educating and supporting our voters every step of the way to ensure a seamless voting experience," said Baranek.
Eligible voters in the township can expect to receive their Voter Information Letter (VIL) by mail during the first week of October.
Baranek said each letter will contain a unique PIN and instructions for casting a ballot online, and voters will have to enter their date of birth.
The online voting period runs from Oct. 16 at 9 a.m., to Oct. 26 (Election Day) at 8 p.m.
“We are also hosting several Voter Assistance Centres across the Township throughout the 11-day voting period,” he said. “Staff will be available to assist anyone who requires help with the online voting process, and devices will be available on site. Residents simply need to bring their Voter Information Letter to participate.”
