Ground has officially been broken on a new rental apartment community in Corunna.
A special ceremony was held Tuesday morning at 389 Murray Street.
The company undertaking the project, Vensuris, said the building will bring 83 purpose-built rental suites to a market where this kind of choice has been hard to come by.
There will be 38 one-bedroom suites, 30 one-bedroom-plus-den suites and 15 two-bedroom suites.
Each of them will feature modern finishes, full-size in-suite laundry, stainless steel appliances, private balconies, in-suite temperature control, central air conditioning and ample storage.
Director of Construction at Vensuris Design Build Nick Vario said the complex is designed for people who are ready to trade the demands of home ownership for a well-appointed, low-maintenance lifestyle without having to leave Corunna or the people they care about.
"This is a project we've been looking forward to seeing get started," said Vario. "Breaking ground is always a meaningful moment, it's when a community stops being something on paper and starts becoming a real place where people will live their lives. We're excited to be building in Corunna, and we're committed to delivering something the community will be proud of."
Director of Resident Experience at Vensuris Living Anita Small said 389 Murray is designed around an active, connected lifestyle.
Shared spaces include a welcoming social lounge, fitness studio for all activity levels, golf simulator, outdoor BBQ terrace, community garden beds, dog run, and car wash station.
“Anyone can build amenities, but what truly defines a Vensuris Living community is what happens inside them every single day,” said Small. “We want our residents to feel like they are part of a vibrant neighbourhood from day one. Whether it’s sharing a laugh at a coffee social, learning something new at a gardening night, or joining neighbours for a local outing, our Resident Life team takes care of the details so residents can simply show up, connect, and enjoy life on their own terms. We can't wait to bring that to Corunna.”
St. Clair Township Mayor Jeff Agar welcomed the project as a positive step for local housing choice.
"It is always a proud moment for our community when we see local investment that addresses a real need. 389 Murray is a welcome addition to Corunna, offering a new way for residents to enjoy everything our township has to offer while moving into a home that fits their lifestyle. Keeping our residents connected to their family, friends, and the community they’ve helped build is a priority for us, and this project is a great step in that direction."
Leasing details, including suite availability and pricing, will be released over the coming months and occupancy is anticipated for Fall 2027.
