Organizers of the Lambton County Science Fair are celebrating the accomplishments of five local students at the Canada Wide Science Fair.
The nation-wide event was held from May 23-30, 2026 in Edmonton.
Local spokesperson Melissa Chopcian said all five students brought home medals, and three won special awards as well.
Om Patel won a Senior Bronze Medal and Naina Patel won a Junior Silver Medal.
Ben Harper took home the Intermediate Bronze Medal and Energy Challenge Award.
Mustafa Arif received the Intermediate Silver Medal and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Visionary Intermediate Award.
Cynthia Rayson won the Intermediate Silver Medal, The Beaty Centre for Species Discovery Award and COSIA Collaboration in Innovation Award.
Chopcian said they are so proud of all of the students.
"Simply having a curious mind and coming up with a scientific procedure to test their curiosity is impressive," she said. "Then to participate in the local science fair and graduate to the Canada wide is fantastic. Achieving medals and special awards at the Canada wide level where there are hundreds and hundreds of brilliant minds across Canada is beyond outstanding."
The local science fair was held at Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School (NCIVS) in April.
