The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) will host an information session to help residents avoid becoming victims of fraud.
Community Engagement Cst. Nick McLean said they will discuss the most common types of scams and give tips on how to recognize suspicious activity and avoid losing their hard-earned money.
"There are a lot of people who are losing their hard-earned money because of fraud occurring," said McLean.
The presentation is open to all ages, and pre-registration is not required.
"The more people we can educate, the better," McLean said.
The presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, beginning at 6 p.m. McLean said the public forum will likely take about an hour.
Information included in the presentation is also available on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's website.
Canadians lost over $704 million to fraud in 2025. The government agency said although fraud is one of the fastest-growing crimes, it often goes unnoticed and unreported.
March is recognized as Fraud Prevention Month. As such, Lambton OPP is also hosting fraud awareness presentations across the county.
The first event will be held at the Watford Library on March 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Residents can register through the library's website.
