Stolen wallet returned after fraud gift card purchase

Sarnia police have recovered a stolen wallet and returned it following the fraudulent purchase of gift cards.

On Friday evening, officers responded to a convenience store on Exmouth Street after reports of a fraudulent use of a credit card.

According to police, a local man lost his wallet and was notified of the charges. After watching the security video, officers identified the man and began looking for the suspect.

Roughly four hours later, the same officer saw the suspect walking on Confederation Street.

The 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with fraud under $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and failure to comply with probation.

The driver was arrested and charged with flight from police officers, failure to remain, mischief under $5,000, operation while impaired, and operation while over the legal limit.
