Sarnia construction activity slowed down in 2025

Construction activity in Sarnia slowed down last year.

A total of 28 building permits were issued at city hall in December, with a combined value of $9.67 million.

Over half of that, $5 million, was for a two-storey commercial building with basement, at 123 Dundas Street, behind the existing SMG (Sarnia Medical Group) building.

A $1 million permit was also issued for a residential renovation on L'Heritage Drive.

That brings the yearly total to 400 permits worth just over $148.4 million, down from 429 permits valued at just over $168.1 million in 2024.

Permits for single-family homes were up slightly from last year.

There was one permit issued in December for a yearly total of 26, compared to 21 in 2024.

The numbers are still down significantly though from 72 new homes recorded in 2022.
