Sarnia Transit is running extended service on New Year's Eve

Sarnia Transit is operating an extended but reduced service on New Year's Eve.

Michelle Carter, Manager of Sarnia Transit, said it's one of many options of ways to get home.

"We hope that people will choose this. I know, like a lot of people will take a cab or an Uber nowadays, but it's just another option that if somebody sees a bus going by, they can, you know, what? I'll hop on the bus instead," said Carter.

The city extends service every year, although ridership is down.

"It does see fewer and fewer passengers, and I think that's really based off of what's going on in the city, like where people are travelling to," said Carter. "We don't see as many as maybe years before, but we feel that it's just based on what events or functions may be happening throughout the city."

Bus service will be running on five routes until 1:10 a.m. on January 1, with the same fare as usual, $3 for an up to 90-minute ride.

For more on information on the routes and times, visit the City of Sarnia's website.

Sarnia Transit wishes everyone a happy New Year.
