Lambton OPP will open its Grand Bend detachment this Victoria Day weekend.
Community Engagement Officer Jeanine Robertson says it will be open from Friday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"We know that Lambton County is definitely a hot spot, especially during the summer months, and we welcome everyone to come out and enjoy the beautiful beaches, and the scenic trails," Robertson said. "Just like any other weekend, including this long weekend, we are prepared. When we see an influx of visitors, the public can expect to see an influx of officers."
Robertson said they want visitors and residents to enjoy what Lambton County has to offer, but do it responsibly and respectfully.
"Obey all of the rules of the road and be patient in high traffic areas," she said. "Respect our natural spaces, and our local communities, and always... always... plan ahead and drive sober. So, if you are planning on consuming alcohol and drugs, plan ahead and get yourself a ride. Make sure that you get home safely."
Robertson said officers will be visible in a number of ways.
"The public can expect to see our officers on foot patrol, riding bicycles, ATVs through the trails, motorcycle patrols as well as our marine units patrolling our waterways. So, St. Clair River and Lake Huron all of the way up to Grand Bend. We have two vessels on the water," she said.
Robertson said officers can be reached in the Lake Huron resort community by calling 9-1-1 or by using the phone outside of the detachment on Main Street, that's available 24/7.
"Anybody can pick up that phone if they require officer assistance. That will put them in immediate contact with our London provincial communications centre," she said.
