Former Dickies building in Hanover to become 39 apartments

A long-vacant industrial building in Hanover is set to be transformed into a 39-unit apartment complex.

Hanover council has approved a tax incentive agreement supporting the redevelopment of the former Dickies Canada building at 612 10th Avenue. The project would convert the existing property into residential apartments, complete with amenities for tenants.

In its latest council highlights, the town stated "the project will see the long-vacant property converted into a 39-unit apartment building with resident amenities."

The agreement falls under Hanover's Community Improvement Program and will allow the developer to gradually phase in increased municipal property taxes resulting from the property's higher assessment following redevelopment.

The town added the incentive is intended to encourage investment, while "helping bring a key site back into productive use while adding new housing supply in Hanover."

The project is part of broader efforts to encourage residential development and revitalize underused properties in the community.

A construction timeline and anticipated completion date have not yet been announced.
