Sarnia’s HUB International collecting coats, winter gear for 6th annual drive

HUB International is kicking off its sixth annual winter wear collection drive on November 2, gathering warm clothing and essential gear to support community members in need ahead of the colder months.

Fundraising Coordinator Chassiti Westover said they've started the donation drive early this year.

"We're collecting hats, mitts, anything large like coats or blankets we're also taking that as well," Westover said. "Boots, scarves, earmuffs, anything like that. It can be used, gently used, or new as well. Anything that can help keep the community warm for this coming winter season."

Small items will be placed outside of a few locations, including their building across from Norm Perry Park.

"We have a tree out front of our organization at 265 Exmouth Street," she said. "We generally will package up the items, sometimes we try to do a hat, mitts, scarf combo. We'll tie [the packages] up with a little passage that just reminds everybody that it's ok to struggle and they're not alone. So, we hang those on the tree as they start to come in."

Westover said a larger drop off is planned at the end of November / early December.

"We take [donations] outside of Sarnia Library and we put it around the benches and the trees out front," she said. "We also [plan to] donate the remaining large items to River City [Vineyard] and Brightside this year."

Donations, both children and adult sizes, are being collected throughout November at the reception desk from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
