The Municipality of South Bruce is looking for volunteers to be scrutineers in this fall's referendum to determine if the town is willing to host Canada's largest nuclear waste storage facility.
Council says it will review the submissions and may select up to two scrutineers for each possible answer (yes or no) to the referendum question: "Are you in favour of the Municipality of South Bruce declaring South Bruce to be a willing host for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) proposed Deep Geological Repository?"
According to the Municipality, scrutineers are entitled to be present in Council Chambers on Oct. 21 prior to the opening of polling to verify and ensure that the Question is listed and the total votes cast are at zero. Scrutineers may also present at any Voter Assistance Centre during hours of operation to observe the process, and in the Receiving Location, at the time when results are announced.
Scrutineers may have their appointment revoked if they contravene the rules and guidelines established by the Clerk or by Election Officials.
The deadline for applications is September 18 at 4:30 p.m. They can be submitted to the Clerk's Office in person or by email to election@southbruce.ca
