A former soldier and current volunteer firefighter is hoping to represent Wallaceburg on Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.
Zac Nicholson is running in Ward 5.
He told CK News Today that he wanted to run after becoming frustrated by the lack of development in the community. Nicholson brought up the newly approved 72-unit apartment in Wallaceburg, specifically noting that this needs to happen more often.
"I'll always be a fierce advocate to bring these types of projects and economic investments from the public and private sector to Ward 5 so we're no longer overlooked," he said.
Along with Wallaceburg's growing development, Nicholson wants to help improve the municipality's spending.
"One of my main priorities, not just for residents of Ward 5, is that their tax dollars are working just as hard for them as they did to earn them," he added.
As for why he believes people should vote for him, Nicholson was quick to highlight his experience as a soldier and firefighter, as well as his experience running his own paralegal service.
"I know what it means to work under pressure, advocate for people, and to find practical solutions to complex problems," he explained.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
