CK man faces multiple mischief charges

A 40-year-old man is facing a handful of charges following a string of vandalism in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded early Thursday morning to reports of property damage on King, Queen, and Wellington Streets.

Police estimated that the damage was done in less than 10 minutes, between 1:15 a.m. and 1:24 a.m.

According to police, the man was first seen smashing the window of a vehicle parked on King Street East.

About a minute later, officers were informed that the glass of a bus shelter on Wellington Street had been shattered.

At 1:17 a.m., investigators were called to a property on Wellington Street West, where they were told that someone had broken the window on one of the building's doors.

Shortly after that, police determined that the same individual damaged the front window of a business on Queen Street.

At 1:24 a.m., officers responded to the alarm going off at a business on King Street West. When they arrived, it was discovered that the front door of the business had been shattered.

CK police said the incidents were linked and a suspect was identified through the use of CCTV surveillance footage.

A Chatham-Kent man was arrested on Wellington Street just after 1:30 a.m. He was charged with five counts of mischief under $5,000.

Police later discovered that the man had a warrant out for his arrest for a number of charges, including theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and identity theft.

Man arrested on warrant related to recent disturbance

Chatham-Kent police arrested a 31-year-old man on Thursday in connection with an incident that occurred a week earlier.

Police were called on Friday, October 24, for a disturbance at an auditorium on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

Through CCTV footage, investigators determined that a man had used an object to break the window on the entrance doors and damage the property's exterior lights. The suspect was identified through the footage, but he was not arrested at the time.

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, police arrested the man by way of warrant.

He faces one count of mischief under $5,000.

The man is being held in police custody pending bail.
