The Chatham Maroons are going to the Sutherland Cup Final.
The Maroons rallied back from a 2-0 deficit early in Game 7 of the GOJHL's Western Conference Final beat the St. Marys Lincolns Tuesday night.
That win sets up a rematch between the Maroons and the St. Catharines Falcons, who they also met in the 2022 Sutherland Cup final. The Falcons won that matchup in a best-of-three series -- this time, it will be a best-of-seven matchup.
Chatham fell behind early against the Lincolns Tuesday night with Kyle Morey opening the scoring on a powerplay in the first period, putting St. Marys up 1-nothing. The Lincolns followed that up with a shorthanded goal from Luca Spagnolo just over two minutes into the second period.
But from that point on, the Maroons took over the game, scoring four straight goals.
Jaxen Fortier-Smith scored the Maroons' first goal, followed by rookie Carter Chadwick to tie things up in the second period.
Josh Harding scored his first goal of the playoffs in the third period and then Connor Hunt made it 4-2 for the Maroons mid-way through the third.
Owen Kalp scored for the Lincolns just over 13 minutes into the third period to pull the Lincolns within one goal, but rookie goaltender Gannon Hunter shut the door for the Maroons after that, making 30 saves on 33 shots overall for the win.
The schedule for the Sutherland Cup is expected to be released later this week.
