Midway, games, contests set for Brooke-Alvinston and Watford Fall Fair

Organizers are hoping for good weather as the Brooke-Alvinston and Watford Fall Fair takes place this weekend.

The fair is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday, but the midway will open a day early.

Brooke-Alvinston Agricultural Society President Chris Bryans said new this year, the midway will open on Thursday, October 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"When the kids are up there dropping off their exhibits, they have a chance to check out the rides and take them for a spin," Bryans said. "They have set up some special rates for the night."

The fair officially kicks off on Friday at the Walnut Street fairgrounds. The midway will open at 4:30 p.m., and the opening ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.

"At 7:30 p.m., we have our traditional pie auction that raises funds for the Children's Hospital in London," she said. "Friday night we have the tractor pull going on, the beer tent will be open, and we'll have some music playing."

On Saturday, gates open at 8 a.m.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. from the Slovak Hall. Bryans said the parade route will travel along River Street to Centre Street and up to the arena.

"We have some heavy horse shows going on; we also have our frog jumping contest, some Oreo stacking for the kids, candy in the straw for kids, old-time games, and a bike draw," Bryans said. "Then at 7 p.m., we have our demolition derby."

A full schedule of events can be found on the fair's website.

Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and high school-aged kids, $5 for elementary-aged children, and those four years of age and under are free.
