A company that serves Sarnia's petrochemical industry is celebrating the completion of its newest rail yard on Kenny Street in the city's south end.
VIP Rail said its new facility adds 750 railcar storage spots and significantly expands the company's ability to serve customers throughout Sarnia’s Chemical Valley and the surrounding region.
Alpenglow Rail owns the company which offers services like railcar storage, switching, transloading, railcar cleaning and repair, warehousing, trucking and bulk liquids terminaling.
In a news release, CEO Rich Montgomery said they now offer more than 2,150 railcar storage spots across the Sarnia-area operations.
He said the goal is to provide customers with additional capacity in one of Canada’s largest refining and petrochemical markets.
“Sarnia has been an important part of VIP Rail and growth for many years, and this expansion reflects our continued commitment to the market and our customers,” said Montgomery. “Adding 750 new storage spots strengthens the infrastructure our customers depend on every day and positions us to grow alongside them. Chief Strategy Officer Josh Huster said Sarnia is exactly the type of market where the company wants to continue investing.
"It has a strong concentration of refining and petrochemical customers, established rail infrastructure and continued demand for flexible third-party rail solutions," said Huster. "This expansion builds on an already strong operation and gives us additional capacity to support both existing customers and future growth in the region.”
Huster said the additional capacity will also give customers greater ability to manage railcar fleets, stage equipment closer to their operations and respond to changing production, transportation and inventory requirements.
