The long-anticipated mural for the Corunna library now has a design chosen and an artist to make it happen.
Michelle Agar, Public Relations and Media Chair for the Kiwanis Club of Corunna, St. Clair, said the mural is for the community by the community.
"We decided to reach out to the kids in the community and have them submit some ideas for what they'd like to see for a mural, and that happened in the spring of this year," she said. "We took those favourite submissions, and we've been working with a couple of local artists, Kennady Rayn (Osborne), as well as Taryn Henry, and they have been helping us to create the actual mural that's going to go on the front of the library."
The process of getting the mural design approved took some time, as there are so many people involved in making something like this happen.
"We started the project probably close to a year ago now, and we got some approvals from the library and from the township. The township owns the building, and the library is run by the county. So we kind of needed to get everyone involved," said Agar. "We're working with the township right now to get some things finalized for how it's going to be installed on the library, and the artists are working on the actual mural right now."
The project is estimated to cost around $10,000 and was made possible through grants and donations from the community.
"We were lucky enough to get a grant from the county through the Creative County Grant Program, as well as from the Alix Foundation," Agar said.
The finished mural is expected to be unveiled by the end of October this year, but no official date has been set.
