Construction has begun on the new splash pad at Germain Park.
It's made possible by support from the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland and the federal and provincial governments.
“The Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland's donation to this splash pad reflects both the spirit of Sarnia and the club's ongoing commitment to giving back to the community. This is a great thing for Sarnia,” said Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley in a news release.
Construction of the splash pad is part of Phase 1 of the Germain Park Master Plan to renovate the 60-acre central park into a place for residents to enjoy.
“Investing in recreational infrastructure like the Germain Park splash pad is vital for the well-being and growth of our communities. Spaces like this provide residents with a fun place to gather, be active, and enjoy the outdoors,” said MP for Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong Marilyn Gladu in a news release.
The splash pad is expected to cost $535,000 and will include 14 different water features and is a part of the city's $7-million vision for the park.
"Germain Park is a hub for outdoor recreation and physical activity for thousands of Sarnia residents each year. I’m extremely pleased that the Government of Ontario is investing in this project to modernize the park and expand opportunities for all residents to enjoy," said MPP for Sarnia-Lambton Bob Bailey, in a news release.
Phase 1 work initiated in 2025, by relocating and revitalizing the dog park and building a new playground.
The new dog park, just east of the Strangway Community Centre, has officially opened for use.
The former dog park, near the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club, was set to be decommissioned on July 31.
