A Sarnia man is facing weapons charges after a resident awoke to find several bullet holes in their vehicle.
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) was called to Overlea Crescent at around 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 23.
Police said several nearby residents reported hearing a loud noise, believed to be a gunshot, at around 10:40 p.m. the previous evening.
Investigating officers found the damage to the vehicle was consistent with a shotgun discharge, and determined the likely direction of travel of the shot.
Police said wadding and shell components were recovered from the front yard of a nearby residence, which was consistent with a discharged .410-gauge shotgun shell.
A Criminal Code search warrant was executed at the home.
Officers seized six firearms, including a Winchester Model 37A .410 bore shotgun, along with .410-gauge and .22 calibre ammunition.
Investigators also found a spent .410-gauge shotgun shell casing inside the residence.
A 47-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and faces the following charges:
- Discharging firearm with intent
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (X8)
- Possession of a firearm without a licence (X6)
- Mischief Under $5,000
Police said they were unable to establish a motive for the incident.
No injuries were reported.
The accused, whose name was not released, remains before the courts.
