The Moore Museum in St. Clair Township remains closed after the building was damaged in Saturday's thunderstorm.
A line of storms coming from Michigan brought heavy rain and gusty winds to Sarnia-Lambton.
The landmark museum on Moore Line was not spared, and Curatorial Assistant Melissa Westbrook said a large tree fell on the roof of the main building.
"We still are remaining closed. We still have a number of trees that need to be dealt with," said Westbrook. "So there is some damage to some of our buildings, so for public safety we're just not allowing anyone into the property."
Moore Museum's main building is housed in the former School Section #2 Moore Township.
According to the museum's website, the brick structure was built in two sections. The first was built in 1942 to replace the former building that was built in 1867 and later destroyed by fire. The second section was built in 1952 to add more classroom space.
"Honestly we don't know off hand how long it's going to be closed for," said Westbrook. "So, if people just maybe check our website and stuff to be updated, we'll try to keep things posted there."
St. Clair Township Public Works issued a safety reminder and cleanup update on Facebook, to say they're managing a high number of service requests following the weekend storm. It said the most critical safety hazards will be prioritized.
The township is responsible for clearing fallen trees located on public property, parks, and municipal road allowances.
In a post to social media, St. Clair Township Fire said downed trees and power lines forced the closure of St. Clair Parkway between Courtright and Mooretown into Sunday afternoon.
Environment Canada had issued an orange severe thunderstorm warning for Sarnia-Lambton at around 2 p.m. Saturday, warning of quarter to ping pong ball sized hail and winds gusting up to 110 kilometres an hour.
