SPS launches Operation Safe Summer Streets campaign

A traffic initiative kicks off in Sarnia this week to ensure safety on local roadways this summer.

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said Operation Safe Summer Streets will target unsafe behaviours such as dangerous and distracted driving, speeding, and disobeying road signs in construction zones.

Officers will also focus on commercial motor vehicle enforcement and modified vehicle compliance, including loud mufflers.

The SPS Traffic Services Unit involves two officers who are exclusively dedicated to traffic enforcement and collision reconstruction. However, the unit will receive the support of additional dedicated officers during the summertime initiative.

With road safety being a shared responsibility, the SPS is encouraging residents to report dangerous driving behaviours at 519-344-8861 or contact 911 in an emergency.
