With consistently warmer weather taking hold, many residents are taking their boats out of winter storage.
That's prompted the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to issue a reminder to private boaters of their entry and reporting obligations when navigating Canadian waters or entering the country by boat.

All travellers entering Canada by boat must report to the CBSA without delay but requirements vary depending on your itinerary, nationality and number of passengers onboard.
You must report to the CBSA, if you land on Canadian soil, anchor, moor or come alongside another boat while in Canadian waters or disembark or embark people or goods in Canada.
All passengers should have a piece of identification like a passport or NEXUS card, declare all goods, don't bring cannabis or other drugs across the border.
Fishers can bring their own tackle boxes, however some fishing bait is not permitted to be brought into Canada for personal use and may be seized at the border.
The CBSA said understanding the reporting requirements will help keep borders secure and ensure a safe and enjoyable season on the water.
