Lambton College students will look to build on last year's success as the Sarnia school hosts the Western Ontario Regional FireFit Championship this summer.
The competition simulates emergency scenarios, where athletes will race through different challenges in order to complete a rescue, while wearing firefighting gear and a breathing apparatus.
Teams from across the province are expected to attend.
Last year, Lambton College's FireFit team won 36 medals, seven of which were from the Canadian National and World Championships.
“The whole team is going to be so excited to compete on the Lambton College campus. We’ll be training hard to make the Sarnia-Lambton community proud,” said Keira Adams, who won last year's Rookie of the Year award.
Lambton College last hosted the Canadian FireFit National and World Championships in 2023 and the Western Ontario Regional event in 2022.
“This championship brings the firefighting profession to life on our campus,” said Lambton College President and CEO Rob Kardas. “Hosting an event of this calibre reflects our commitment to hands-on training, industry collaboration, and preparing students for impactful careers in our communities.”
The regional championship will be held from July 17 to July 19 and is open to spectators.
The festivities will include a corporate challenge on July 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where local businesses and groups can try out the two-minute course. Registration is open.
“We are proud to open our campus to our region and to collaborate with partners who share our commitment to student and community success,” said Kardas.
The FireFit races on July 18 and July 19 will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Sponsorship opportunities are available to support the Lambton College FireFit team.
