The Crave series The Trades is returning for a third season.
Creator and Executive Producer of the show Ryan J. Lindsay, who is from Sarnia said it's loosely based on tradespeople who work in the industrial region of the city.
"It follows refinery workers and the antics that they encounter on the day-to-day jobs at the workplace, and it's loosely based on Sarnia, you know, the Chemical Valley. And just the stories and the tales that I've heard from my brothers, who are both tradesmen, and you know, friends that are in the trades, and various other individuals that I've met over the years," said Lindsay.
The show has made it to its third season, and Lindsay said there's no lack of stories to tell.
"I've interviewed over 250 trades, men and women, and sat down with them and been able to chat about, you know, what's the best rumour you've ever started, or, you know, what's the best nickname you've ever come up with? So really, there's endless content. We could do 20 seasons of the show with the amount of content that's out there."
Lindsay also said it means the world to him to be able to connect his hometown to his work and have it be positively received.
"It means everything to bring this show to life, because, you know, it's my family, it's my community, it's a representation of, really, everyone that I know and love and am friends with. And it brings me a lot of joy to do this show. And yeah, I just, I can't wait to do it forever," he said. "The show's been received positively, everyone's been happy with it. I mean, getting a third season on TV overall is very difficult these days. So I think across the board, it's a great show."
Lindsay is hosing a private special season three premiere at the Imperial Theatre Saturday for about 600 local tradespeople and the cast.
Although none of the show is filmed in Sarnia itself, the series has a few different filming locations across the country that Lindsay said have the Sarnia look.
"The majority of the show is filmed out in Dartmouth and Halifax, so out in Nova Scotia, and we do film a few days in Ontario. We actually shoot at Stelco in Hamilton, because it gives that exterior refinery, that gritty look that resembles Sarnia," said Lindsay.
The first two episodes of season three of The Trades premieres on March 20 on Crave.
