SPS recruiting volunteer officers for Auxiliary Unit

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) is recruiting officers for its volunteer Auxiliary Unit. It's made up of everyday citizens interested in contributing to the safety and wellbeing of the community.

Auxiliary Officers will support the work of sworn police officers on local crime prevention initiatives and patrols.

They'll also take part in ground searches for lost or missing persons, and volunteer at numerous, large-scale, annual events throughout the year.

Police said applicants will be required to do to fitness testing which is comprised of push-ups, core endurance, flexibility and the shuttle run.

An interview will be conducted in front of a panel of recruiters. Successful applicants will be invited to move forward in the selection process, and will need a medical exam and background investigation.

The Auxiliary Unit was launched in May of 2024 with six officers.

Information sessions are scheduled for February 18 and 19 at 6 p.m. at the Police Training Centre at Lambton Mall.

Applications are being accepted until March 6 at 4 p.m.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can visit the Sarnia Police Service's website for more information and to apply.
