Legion launches another Catch the Ace lottery

Tickets go on sale at noon Thursday for the Sarnia Legion's latest Catch the Ace lottery fundraiser.

The last campaign lasted 36 weeks, and raised an estimated total of $2.1 million.

The lucky winner took home over $718,000.

Sarnia Legion Branch 62 President Les Jones said this time around, the progressive pot is starting at $10,000.

"What happens each week is at the end of the night we take the ticket sales, and 50 per cent of the ticket sales for that night go into our lottery fund and that's where all these donations come from," said Jones. "Then 20 per cent goes to the winner of that night, whoever's ticket is pulled, they get the 20 per cent. And then, that person whose ticket we pulled goes up to the board and pulls an envelope, hoping the Ace of Spades is in it."

Jones said the remaining 30 per cent of the weekly ticket sales is added to the progressive jackpot.

Funds generated from the lottery fundraiser stay in the community.

On Monday, the Sarnia Legion donated over $500,000 to 35 organizations and groups.

Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in person at the Front Street Legion between 12 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The draw will be held at around 7:45 p.m., and Jones said you don't have to be there in person to win.
