Over 1,000 cyclists are registered to take part in the ninth annual Bluewater International Granfondo (BIGF).
It will be held Sunday, August 3 along the shores of Lake Huron.
The popular event begins and ends at Bright's Grove's Mike Weir Park, and riders have four route options, ranging from 30 kilometres to 150km.
The first race is the 150km event, which gets underway at 7 a.m.
Chair Ken MacAlpine said riders range in age from 16 all the way to 85 years old.
"They're coming from the U.K., pretty much every province in Canada is represented, we probably have about 50 people from the U.S. There's also a couple coming from eastern Europe," said MacAlpine.
MacAlpine said the scenery along the route is incredible.
"I think that's a testament to why we sell out each year at 1,000 people," he said. "We could increase that number fairly easily but it would increase the strain on the roads and volunteers. People walk from Mike Weir Park to the start on the lake, and even Sarnia people stop and take pictures. The people from out of town are totally amazed at how nice Sarnia is, the waterfront we have and what we have to offer."
Participants will receive a jersey, swag bag and finisher medals, and a hot meal and cold beverages will be available after the ride.
The funds raised from the Bluewater International Granfondo go to St Joseph's Hospice and Bluewater Health Palliative Care.
To date, Bluewater Cycling Organization, the umbrella not for profit corporation, has donated over $500,000 to various charities.
MacAlpine said the event wouldn't be possible without help from dozens of volunteers.
He said the group has big plans for next year's event, which will be the 10th anniversary, adding they're keeping it a surprise for the time being.
