Multi-million dollar overhaul planned at Norm Perry Park

The future of Norm Perry Memorial Park in Sarnia will be one of transformation.

City staff is recommending a Master Plan for the site be endorsed by city council at its next meeting.

Mayor Mike Bradley said the proposal includes several improvements such as field quality, lighting, signage, and other amenities.

"It is really a complete overhaul of the site, respecting the history and the past of this park that means so much to Sarnians," said Bradley. "The city has developed for Canatara Park, Tecumseh, and Germain along with this, a master plan and each year we will deploy resources in budget to implement this long-term plan."

He said improved seating for spectators is a must.

"Well there's no question, the bleachers, we've been holding back as a city looking to do a renewal of the bleachers. It needs to be done," said Bradley.

He said the proposal for the Exmouth Street property, which currently serves as the home ground for the Sarnia Imperials and the Sarnia Rugby Club, also includes reconfiguring the fields.

The report said this impact of the field adjustments did reduce the number of future parking spaces from approximately 280 to 190.

According to the report, the current parking at the site only allows for well under 100 spots, so there is still an overall net increase as part of the final design.

The overall estimated cost of the three-phase project is just under $13 million.

City council meets on Monday, July 21 at 1 p.m.
