An affordable housing project in Sarnia helped boost construction activity in June.
A $14 million permit was one of 47 issued by the city last month, for the development of an apartment building at 471 Kathleen Avenue, near Indian Road.
Construction of the three-storey 50 unit complex is expected to take about 18 months to complete.
A $1 million permit was also issued for a commercial building at 1355 London Road.
Council approved an official plan amendment for the property last year.
The 6,000 square foot building would house three commercial spaces, including a restaurant with a drive-through facility.
Last month's total permits were valued at $24.2 million.
Year-over-year construction activity is slightly slower with a total of 195 permits issued so far in 2025, compared to 205 during the same time frame in 2024. However, the year to date total is sitting at $50,777,690 up over $12.3 million over last year.
There were two permits issued for single-family dwellings in June, bringing the year-to-date total for new homes to seven.
