A section of Highway 402 in Plympton-Wyoming is expected to be closed for a while.
Lambton OPP were called about unsafe road conditions at around 6 p.m. Sunday.
As a result, the westbound highway was closed between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road.
Further details were not immediately available, but photos sent to Sarnia News Today show significant damage to the roadway.
An update posted to social media by OPP said the recent weather conditions are believed to have been a contributing factor. The Ministry of Transportation later confirmed this to Sarnia News Today via email.
"Due to extreme heat, a pavement joint on Highway 402 between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road in Plympton-Wyoming requires repair, leading to the temporary closure of the highway," read the emailed statement. "MTO has worked with nearby municipalities to activate emergency detour routes while temporary repairs are underway."
Westbound motorists are advised to exit at Oil Heritage Road and detour following London Line to Mandaumin Road to re-enter the highway.
Lambton OPP are thanking the public for their patience and cooperation during this closure.
The MTO said the highway is expected to reopen later this week.
Permanent repairs will be made this fall.
