Food safety explored in new Lambton Heritage Museum exhibit

A new exhibit at the Lambton Heritage Museum will be sure to get your taste buds going.

The 'A Taste of Science' Exhibit showcases the science behind food safety and how it relates to slowing the decay of food.

It will look at how food can be kept nutritious and safe to eat.

Curator and Supervisor Dana Thorne said it is a hands on exhibit.

"There's a smell machine where you can push a button and it will blow out a smell at you and you have to figure out what kind of food is decaying for that scent, it has some meat touch screens and interactives as well," she said.

Thorne said this is a travelling exhibit.

"It's on loan from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, which is one of the major museums in Ottawa," she said. "It's really exciting to be able to bring something from a national museum to our residents here in Lambton County."

It was developed through the food literacy initiative, which was launched in 2013.

She said this exhibit is a fun way for families to learn about food safety.

"Agriculture is such a key industry here in Lambton, we thought this exhibit that looks at food science and food preservation would be of interest to our local residents," said Thorne.

She said the exhibit will teach some lessons about agriculture in our county.

"I think it will give people an opportunity to think about how to safely preserve food and those will be some transferable skills that they can take into their lives," said Thorne.

The displays are bilingual and are available for all ages.

The exhibit will be available with regular admission until October 25.
