Lambton County Library will host a launch party to kick off its summer reading challenge.
The free event will be held at Victoria Park in Petrolia on Saturday, June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Public Services Coordinator Vanitia Campbell said this year's theme, Wild Wonder, celebrates wildlife with activities and programs for all ages.
"We've created a true wildlife adventure for families to kick off our summer reading challenge," said Campbell. "This launch party is our biggest yet, offering children the chance to see amazing animals up close while getting excited about reading and learning."
She said there will be inflatables, face painting, birds of prey, reptile meet-and-greets after a reptile stage show, crafts and activities at the party.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Greenwood Arena.
Weather-related venue changes will be announced on the library's Facebook account, @LCLibraryCA, and website, LCLibrary.ca.
Registration for the six week summer reading challenge, from July 2 to August 15, will kick off after the launch.
You can sign up to participate in the program, which is designed to keep children, teens and adults engaged in reading throughout the summer, at any Lambton County Library location during operating hours or online at Beanstack.
Registration kits for ages 0-17 will be available while supplies last.
