Fisherman rescued after falling into river

Sarnia Fire Rescue is reminding residents to always have a personal floatation device with them when on or near the water.

Firefighters responded to a water rescue at around 10 p.m. Saturday near the end of Clifford Street.

A man fell into the St. Clair River while fishing, and couldn't get out.

Public Education Officer Mike Otis said thankfully a passerby was able to assist the fisherman.

"Somebody threw them a rope so they were just hanging on to the rope struggling, until we got there to rescue them with a ladder and got them out of the water to safety," said Otis.

Otis said the man was not injured in the ordeal.

This time of year, the water temperature in the river is typically around 9 C.
