The Lambton Film and Food Festival (LaFFF) will be returning with its Street Fiesta this weekend.
The annual LaFFF will be held in downtown Forest from Thursday, May 22 until Sunday, May 25.
It kicks off with the Youth Film Competition Thursday at the Kineto Theatre at 6 p.m.
Volunteer Ron Van Horne said students from across the county are invited to participate.
"They submit films to panel of judges and we give out cash prizes to the best films of the weekend," he said. " The number that we get for entries is anywhere from 10 to maybe 15 or 16 films each year."
He said the kids really enjoy the competition.
"A lot of the kids will come with their friends and/or come with their family too. We see a lot of parents and grandparents out in the crowd when they're watching the film," Van Horne said.
He said the festival is an opportunity for the community to come together.
"It gets them into different types of films that they wouldn't necessarily see if they were just going with the commercial films that you can see in most of the theatres in the bigger cities," he said.
There will be nine award winning films featured this year.
According to Van Horne, typically they have at least 100 people per viewing.
He said hopefully people's eyes will be opened to a new variety of films.
"We have some arts films in it, we have foreign films in it, we have some other great entertainment or all of the above," Van Horne said. " They're just good films and they've been vetted by local community volunteers."
On Friday, there will be the annual "chalk-art fest", street music and "Film Shorts for kids".
The films on Friday are Young Werther and Sing Sing.
On Saturday, there will be an artisan market, food trucks, and an evening street party at the Kineto Patio at 4:30 p.m.
The street festival portion of the event is free but if you want to see a film you have to purchase a ticket for $10.
Show times and tickets can be found on the Kineto Theatre website.
While films are shown this weekend, the event kickoff was held on May 3 with its Film Festival Gala.
