Owen Sound hosts Information Centre on 4th Ave W. Construction

Residents will have an opportunity to learn more about a major road reconstruction project planned in Owen Sound during an upcoming public information session.

The city has announced a Public Information Centre will be held Thursday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. outside the council chamber at City Hall to present the preferred design concept for the 4th Avenue Reconstruction Project. All members of the public are welcome to attend and speak with staff about the proposal.

The project focuses on improvements along 4th Avenue West, a key roadway in the city’s west end. Plans call for a full reconstruction of the road between 15th Street West and 20th Street West, along with upgrades to sections of nearby streets including 16th Street West and 17th Street West.

Work is expected to include replacing aging underground infrastructure such as water and sewer pipes, reconstructing the roadway, and installing new curbs, gutters and sidewalks. The project also aims to address stormwater management issues in the area, particularly along parts of 16th Street West that have experienced flooding problems in the past.

The reconstruction is expected to be completed in phases, with initial construction targeted for the 2026 season and additional work planned in 2027. The total project budget is estimated at just under $6 million.

Public Information Centres are typically held as open-house style sessions, allowing residents to review project displays, ask questions of engineering and public works staff, and provide feedback about how the work may affect their properties or neighbourhood.

City officials say additional project details and updates can also be found online through the city’s project page.
