The Town of Minto is celebrating receiving over $4.4 million in funding through the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund.
The Town of Minto says that these funds will directly support the reconstruction of Wellington Road 123 Main Street West in Palmerston, a critical infrastructure project that the town says will enable the creation of 1,447 new homes in the community.
Minto Council and staff have been preparing for future housing growth in the municipality, with Palmerston highlighted as a potential key centre for growth.
The reconstruction of Main Street will not only expand water capacity but will revitalize the downtown area, offering more opportunities for economic growth and business development.
"We are extremely grateful for this investment from the Province of Ontario and the advocacy of MPP Matthew Rae," said Mayor Dave Turton. "This funding will go a long way in enabling much-needed housing growth in Palmerston. By investing in essential water and road infrastructure, the province is helping us create the conditions that will allow families to find a place to call home here in Minto."
