Chatham dog close to adoption after recoving from drug exposure

The story of a Chatham dog found seizing from multiple illegal drugs appears to have a happy ending.

In September, Little Debbie was brought to the Pet & Wildlife Rescue (PAWR).

She was seizing uncontrollably, with tests showing she had cocaine and amphetamines in her system.

Little Debbie stopped seizing after the drugs left her system, but the convulsions left her blind with a 50/50 chance of her permanently losing her sight.

Fortunately, she seems to have regained most, if not all, of her vision.

"She seems completely fine now. Our vet is pretty surprised," laughed Myriam Armstrong, PAWR's executive director.

For the past couple of weeks, Little Debbie has been living with a foster family. Armstrong explained that anyone who didn't know what she's gone through would think she's just a normal puppy.

After seeing Little Debbie at her worst, Armstrong didn't think this was possible.

"I never thought that she would recover. I didn't think she'd be able to walk, never mind running around playing, creating havoc in her foster home," she added.

Little Debbie is expected to be officially adopted in the next week or so.

Meanwhile, Armstrong said Animal Welfare continue to investigate how Little Debbie got access to the illegal drugs.

She's hoping for an update in the near future.
