The popular "Racing Against Drugs" youth educational program is coming back to Chatham.
The program will make its return to Erickson Arena, running from April 13-17.
Over the course of the week, 1,100 Grade 5 students from 33 schools will learn lessons in the form of different "pit stops." The program informs students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, smoking, and vaping.
After cycling through the pit stops, the students finish off the session with racing themed activities to boost morale and build positive connections.
“This program allows us to engage students in a fun and memorable way while reinforcing critical safety and prevention messages,” said Amanda Wyatt, Chair of Racing Against Drugs' Chatham-Kent chapter.
The program relies on sponsorships and local support, and is provided to schools free of charge.
The event is part of a big community effort, as local emergency services, health organizations, and school boards are all contributing.
